The Mi Ax series has always been like a nightmare for Xiaomi. They have never been able to deliver up to their promised updates for their Android One series, which was made to provide users with the clean vanilla interface of Android and secure timely updates, just the way Google had wanted it to be but just like any other thing in this world things aren’t ideal , especially in the case of Xiaomi.

The Mi A3 has now started receiving the Android 10 update in India after several unsuccessful attempts by Xiaomi devs who tried hard to release a stable build for this device but were not able to deliver the stable version. The first Android 10 update was started to be received by the users in the beginning if March 2020 and since then it has been a bumpy ride. The update has been recalled multiple time because of various bugs that the users faced such as the fingerprint sensor issue, camera lag, UI lag and so on.

But now Xiaomi seems to have found the solution for all the problems and the Android 10 update has been started to roll out globally a few days back for the global version of Mi A3 and specifically mentioning not for the Indian version. But now finally Indian users of the device have also started to receive the Android 10 update on May 20th 2020 for everyone, earlier it was released for only 1% of people but now it’s available for everyone( If you haven’t received it yet try restarting your phone and checking again or just wait it will come in some time because it’s rolling out in phases).

Now let’s talk about what the update actually brings with it. The build number of this update is V11.0.15.0.QFQMIXM.The size of the update was 1.33GB. Since this update has been rolled after several unsuccessful attempts we hope that this one would be a stable update. For the time I have used it seems to be a quite stable version, just a few minor hiccups here and there, but that shouldn’t bother you much. The top features that this update brings with are:-

  1. System-Wide Dark Mode -Its finally here trust me I was waiting for it for so long. It not only makes the theme of the app which have dark mode but also which don’t have this option. It forcefully makes them dark like our beloved Chrome Browser.

2. Gesture Navigation Support- Another feature that the users were craving for is the Gesture navigation support. So, now we don’t have to press those buttons, just swipe like any other Android 10 device like swipe up from the bottom to go to the home screen, swipe left or right to go back, swipe up from the bottom left or bottom right to trigger Google Assistant, etc.

3. Enhanced Privacy features -There is a host of security features that the Android 10 update brings with it such as what data to can be stored by apps, which apps can access your location and at what times, opt-out of ad personalization, etc. These all can be accessed from the Privacy section in the settings.

4. Faster Security Updates-Android 10 brings with it a feature in which now if google wants to give an important security update this can be directly done from the play store by Google without the intervention of the manufacturer and the delay that comes with it. Also, this update brings with it the May 5 security patch.

5. Smart Replies- Android will intelligently recommend the various operations that can be performed in response to a message received by you from your friend.

6. Focus Mode-If you are the person you starts studying and sees an Instagram popup and boom you just forget what you actually were doing this update might be a boon for you. What it does is it blocks out all the notifications from the apps which you have disabled in the Focus Mode settings.

7. Digital Well Being and Parental Controls- See digital ground rules and help make healthy digital habits related to your device. You can monitor how much you use your phone, manage your child’s location with the family link, etc.

8. Audio Balance & Mono Audio- You can alter the balance between the left channel and the right channel for stereo audio output. Also, you can make a dual-channel audio a single channel/mono audio if you want to.

There are a whole lot of small features that you will get to know about when you use your device thoroughly.

Even though this is an I have experienced a couple of bugs till now:

  1. Wifi Settings menu crashes settings app(but this was fixed with a couple of restarts).
  2. The Camera app just blacks out, but swipe up brings back to you home that means the device and touch are on but the display just doesn’t display anything or it just displays black colour. This wasn’t fixed with a restart for this I had to clear the cache of the camera app and then restart, and things were fine again.

Till now I had found out about only these bugs if I discover any more I will update this article.

The Xiaomi’s attitude of delivering an October 2019 promised update in May 2020 isn’t professional at all. These type of things are a sign that you don’t care about your customer and just want to do these type of things just for the sake of it. But I hope that Xiaomi devs would have learned something from this update and Xiamoi would start caring more about their customers and would deliver the next Android 11 update on time.
